How does laparoscopic surgery differ from open surgery?

In laparoscopic surgery, 3–5 small incisions are made in the abdomen and the procedure is performed using a camera and specialized instruments. Compared with open surgery, patients experience significantly less pain, hospital stay is reduced to 1–3 days, and return to daily life is possible within 1–2 weeks.

What is HIPEC and which conditions is it used for?

HIPEC (Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy) is a heated chemotherapy technique administered simultaneously with surgery for cancers that have spread to the peritoneum. It is used primarily for peritoneal cancer, advanced colorectal cancer, and gastric cancer with peritoneal spread.

How long does colon cancer surgery take?

Laparoscopic colon cancer resection takes an average of 2–4 hours depending on disease stage. Hospital stay following surgery is generally 3–5 days.

What should I eat after gallbladder surgery?

Is surgery always necessary for hemorrhoids?

For mild to moderate hemorrhoids, a high-fiber diet, medication, and rubber band ligation may be sufficient. In advanced grades, laser treatment or surgical intervention may be required. The appropriate approach is determined following examination.

How is inguinal hernia surgery performed?

Inguinal hernia repair is most commonly performed laparoscopically today. Through 3 small incisions, the hernia sac is reduced and the area reinforced with a synthetic mesh. The procedure typically takes 45–60 minutes and the patient can be discharged the same day.

What is the difference between robotic and laparoscopic surgery?

In robotic surgery, the surgeon controls robotic arms from a console to perform the procedure. Compared with standard laparoscopy, it offers significantly greater precision and three-dimensional visualization. This provides a major advantage in complex operations within confined anatomical spaces.
